EARTH DAY AT VIRTUOUS PIE

EARTH DAY AT VIRTUOUS PIE

Earth Day is on April 22, 2021, and this year’s theme is Restore Our Earth. When life around the globe returns to normal, our world cannot return to business-as-usual.

Our global community has been shocked by the largest global crisis in a generation. COVID-19 has shown us the necessity of thinking ahead, but the next crises are already on their way. Climate change, species loss, pandemics and massive natural disasters might define the future — unless we do something now. We have the solutions, both natural and technological… we just need the will.

To honour Earth Day at Virtuous Pie, we are donating a portion of our sales from the day to Surfrider, who has a local branch in each of our communities.

The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches, for all people, through a powerful activist network. We fight for plastic pollution, ocean protection, beach access, coastal preservation, and clean water.

Vancouver

Surfrider Vancouver believes that the best way to approach the global issue of marine pollution is through community engagement and education. Large scale change will only be achieved through the actions taken by local communities: small pieces making up the whole jigsaw. We encourage the Vancouver community to come out on beach cleans, remove the trash from our beaches and engage with a like-minded, environmentally conscious community.

Our chapter hosts five to six beach cleans a year on Vancouver’s most popular beaches. Alongside this, we hold movie nights, showcasing local and international environmental documentaries, and educational evenings with specialists in the scientific and environmental community. We have a core team of volunteers who run the chapter, with roles covering events, communications, chapter management, partnerships, finance, graphic design and much more.“

Vancouver Island

Surfrider Foundation Vancouver Island (SFVI) is a grassroots non-profit coastal protection organization with a mission that is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our oceans, waves and beaches, for all people, through a powerful activist network. We are a volunteer-run organization made up of a community of passionate activists, ranging from ocean recreators to academics to working professionals of all ages! Our vision is to protect 100% of the Southern Vancouver Island coastline.

SFVI volunteers act on issues related to plastic pollution, clean water, beach access, coastal preservation, and ocean protection through a variety of programs and campaigns!“

Portland

„The Portland Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation’s work is focused keeping it clean upstream through our programs including Ocean Friendly Restaurants, Green Streets, #DitchTheStrawPDX, Hold On To Your Butt programs and our Blue Water Task Force water quality monitoring program facilitated by the Surfrider North Coast Chapter. Chapter meetings are currently virtual for the health and safety of everyone.“
